warning: setlocale: LC_CTYPE: cannot change locale (UTF-8) 04.03.12

I was getting the following message when loggin through SSH :

warning: setlocale: LC_CTYPE: cannot change locale (UTF-8)

It complain about the locale variables not being set.

To fix this, simply add the following to ~/.bash_profile:

export LC_CTYPE=”en_US.UTF-8″

  • I add:
    export LC_CTYPE=”en_US.UTF-8″
    to
    “to ~/.bash_profile:”

after I restart the machine and log in, but it still complains “warning: setlocale: LC_CTYPE: cannot change locale (UTF-8)”

    any idea about this?

  • Try setting LC_CTYPE on ‘client’ machine!
